Just released IRON SLAB as part of this year's One-Page RPG Jam!
I haven't made anything for tabletop in years, so be gentle! ^^
I've been wanting to do a one-page RPG for years and I'm glad I finally put one out, though probably should have started with a system hack to be honest... Oh well! Iron Slab tries to turn the rhythms of shonen tournament arcs into a quick and dirty tabletop RPG. It pays homage to wild weapon weirdos like Guts, Zoro, and Kenpachi. At the very least, it's a game of throwing dice and seeing characters you make explode, and with most explosions, you get to make up more things about their past.
This game was a lot of fun to write and a lot less fun to lay out. Scribus is not an easy tool to just pick up, apparently. While I think I was able to make a fairly clean and parse-able ruleset, I'm a bit worried about the main dice mechanic. It's kind of a rip-off of Warhammer where you want your stats to be low to make sure more sides of the dice help you out. If phrases like "rolls are -2 easier" seem confusing, let me know. I'm trying to figure out a better way to phrase things. Words are hard and I'm ready to go back to arcade games soon. Maybe even another jam project.
I'm hoping to playtest it soon. It won't be a bias free one because I really want to GM this game and I am the only person who knows the rules inside and out. Kind of a fun feeling, not gonna lie! If I end up liking my own game, expect some rewrites for clarity, some balance changes, and maybe even a printable character sheet in a zine format! Who knows, might even make some additional materials to get away from the sword weirdos of the core rules.
And I've talked enough. It's 2AM and I have work tomorrow. Have some fun throwing dice around and check out the One-Page RPG Jam!
Parasocially yours forever,
Jo
